Kavan - An Ambedkarite Opera is a biting operatic satire tracing the coming of age of Bejul, a young Ambedkarite boy haunted by the legacy of his Shahir father. Waking from a fever dream into chaos, Bejul finds his world crumbling: his once-devoted cow now spurns him, his mother is overwhelmed, and even his estranged sister turns him away. On the brink of despair, an unexpected opportunity emerges, one that could catapult him to power or destroy him entirely. Told through powerful songs and poetry in the Ambedkari Jalsa tradition, Kavan reflects the contradictions of a new India: ambitious, volatile and deeply unequal.
