About the event
With a flawless blend of magical realism, Indian mythology, and the zeal of Parallel Cinema, Mani Kaul's "Duvidha" is quite possibly his most acclaimed film yet! The film follows the life of a newly wed bride and her gradual relationship with a ghost that takes the form of her husband. Starring Raisa Padamsee and Rai Menon, the film grew in its fame through the ages (so much so that it was remade as Paheli in 2005, starring Shah Rukh Khan and Rani Mukherjee.)
TPCC's take: Mani Kaul happens to be one of the most important directors in the Indian landscape. His alignment to neither the industry cinema or the Parallel wave that took the country by force has set him apart as a formalist like no other. Building from his influences from Bresson and Ghatak, Kaul went on to find his craft in his later years!
