About the event
Film: Daisies by Věra Chytilová
Description: Věra Chytilová’s Daisies (1966) is a landmark of the Czech New Wave, following two rebellious young women—both named Marie—as they turn anarchic pranks into a surreal assault on conformity.
With its fractured editing, vivid imagery, and fierce feminist critique, the film proved so audacious that Czechoslovakia’s communist authorities delayed and suppressed its release.
Even so, its rebellious energy could not be contained, and Daisies became a touchstone of experimental cinema and a lasting influence on filmmakers. More than fifty years later, it remains a gleefully radical masterpiece—strange, defiant, and impossible to forget.
