Cartographies of Becoming

The city constantly exceeds its own space - its cartographic boundaries, programmatic prescriptions, and intended purposes. This exceeding (or ceding to various functions) - this stretching of space to meet various needs - is where the city reveals its qualities of resilience, diversity and inclusivity. This constitutes the central provocation for The Onion Project 2.0 (TOP 2.0) competition hosted by Wadiyar Centre for Architecture, Mysuru.

The TOP2.0 competition invited contestants to trace, reflect and document the other lives of urban spaces, which act beyond their prescribed functions and in doing so, create new social, physical and emotional geographies. Contestants were invited to identify a site, situation, or event in their city where space is used beyond its intended purpose - not to fix, but to reveal flux, agency, and temporality through mapping.
