Buddies: A Celebration of World Music

BUDDIES is a celebration of true world music—where cultures, traditions, and voices from different parts of the world come together to create one shared sound.

At the heart of this concert is a powerful cultural exchange. Soaring flute melodies flow through the rhythmic conversations of two iconic frame-drumming traditions: the soulful Khanjira from India and the dynamic Doyra from Uzbekistan. Expanding the musical dialogue further, German multi-instrumentalist Matthias Schriefl joins on trumpet, flugelhorn, and alphorn, bringing a distinct European voice into this global collaboration. The ensemble is further enriched by the presence of young violinist Pranavi Guruprasanna, adding freshness and depth to the collective sound.

BUDDIES stands for Bharata (India), U (Uzbekistan), and Deutsch (Germany)—a name that reflects the spirit of the music itself. Artists from different backgrounds, languages, and musical traditions meet on one stage, demonstrating how melody and rhythm transcend borders and cultures.
