About the event
Bardo Beings explores a state of transition – the “bardo”, a space between the completion of one phase and the beginning of another.
Inspired by Sogyal Rinpoche’s The Tibetan Book of Living and Dying, the work imagines our modern world as a bardo realm — one of deep uncertainty and cyclical attachment. The beings here exist in dependence — bound through reflection, stimulation, and resistance. Each is the other’s nemesis, intimate other, and mirror.
As humans, our reptilian, mammalian, and primal selves continuously interact; our pasts and presents intertwine in conflict and longing. Amid growing divides, we turn to the body — to examine, through physical encounter, the tension between seemingly separate parts of a whole. Perhaps living in the modern world is to inhabit the bardo itself.
In this clash and connection, the work becomes a kind of training — a preparation for the bardo and its challenges.
